Expanding affordable housing

Keith is the only candidate in this race who has actually delivered affordable housing and emergency shelter—working with colleagues in Shoreline, nonprofit providers, and regional partners to expand options. But our community needs a lot more.

The housing shortage is the root of our affordability crisis, and solving it requires building much more housing of every kind. Keith championed concentrating development around Shoreline’s new light rail stations and mandating affordable housing in all new large apartment buildings. Shoreline is now a regional model for transit-oriented growth.

In Olympia, Keith will push to streamline permitting so building is easier and cheaper. He’ll fight for tax credits and subsidies for extremely low-income rental housing, and for creative solutions like community land trusts, where land is held in trust but people own their individual homes, to open homeownership to families who’ve been priced out.

Keith has done this work. It’s time to bring that experience to Olympia.
