Expanding affordable housing

Housing affordability is one of the key issues Washington, and particularly the 32nd District, faces. It plays into everything from homelessness to quality of life to job creation.

Existing programs work well to slowly increase the rate of rental housing affordable to folks making 80% or more of the area median income (AMI). But we’re completely failing at for-sale homes at anything below 100% AMI, and any homes at all for people making less than 80%

Urban density is part of the solution. But so are tax credits and subsidies for extremely low income rental housing, and creative solutions like land trusts–where the land is jointly owned and held in trust but people own their individuals homes on it–to supplement the for-sale market.

Keith has been working on affordable housing his entire career and Shoreline has seen success in many areas. It’s time to bring that experience and drive to Olympia.
